Reading Skills for Today's Adults

Shane is one year old. He has long, curly hair. Dad likes the curls. He does not want Shane to get a haircut. Mom likes short hair. She wants Shane to get a haircut.

One day Dad and Shane are at the grocery store. A woman stops to admire Shane’s hair. She says, “What pretty curls your baby has! How old is she?” Dad smiles and says, “She is a he. His name is Shane. He is twelve months old.”

Dad tells Mom about the woman at the mall who thought Shane was a girl. Dad laughs. Mom does not think it is funny. Mom wants Shane to get a haircut the next day. Dad agrees. Tomorrow Dad and Mom will take Shane to get his first haircut.
